BAFTA has announced that writer, director and producer Baz Luhrmann will explore his long and remarkable film career at the ‘BAFTA: A Life in Pictures’ event on Friday 30 September, at 195 Piccadilly in London .
‘BAFTA: A Life in Pictures’ is a series of on-stage interviews where some of the world’s leading film and television talents share, sometimes never before told, professional knowledge of information that helped them to improve and develop their work.
Baz Luhrmann is a storyteller and pop culture pioneer. In this 90-minute Q&A, BAFTA will open up about his cross-disciplinary approach and interests in films, theatre, drama, events and music.
Lurhmann’s latest film, Elvis, which opened in theaters around the world this summer, became the filmmaker’s highest-grossing film in the US and in 21 countries worldwide and ranked It is the second-highest grossing musical biopic of all time, worldwide.
First gaining attention through the Red Curtain Trilogy, the Oscar-nominated Strictly Ballroom (1992), the writer and producer, followed by the critically acclaimed adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Romeo. + Juliet (1996) and Academy Award winner Moulin Rouge! (2001), which brought back the film-musical and secured the same cult following Luhrmann had among the public and the industry. Also, Moulin Rouge! The Musical won Tony Awards for scenic design, costumes, lighting, sound design and score, and Broadway star Danny Burstein. Sonya Tayeh won for lead actress in her Broadway debut, and Alex Timbers won for best lead in a musical.

Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby (2013), won two Academy Awards. The collaboration with Netflix later produced The Get Down (2016), a highly successful documentary about the birth of hip-hop in the 1970s South Bronx.
Luhrmann’s latest directing projects include Faraway Downs, a six-episode Hulu remake of his 2008 film, Australia, where he lives with his wife and longtime partner, Catherine Martin (CM ), and their two children.
BAFTA: A Life in Pictures welcomes pictures with Daniel Craig, Quentin Tarantino, Annette Bening, Cate Blanchett, Viola Davis, Chiwetel Ejiofor, David Fincher, Hugh Grant, Allison Janney, Keira Knightley Sam Mendes, Helen Mirren, Alan Rickman , Vanessa Redgrave , Martin Scorsese, Kristin Scott Thomas, Meryl Streep, Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet.
